The Laser that we used in this stainless steel black marking is 200W MOPA Fiber Laser with 150mm x150mm area lens. MOPA fiber laser is a laser that can adjust the pulse width/duration, which can reduce the heat or burn on the surface of the object. Therefore, MOPA Fiber Laser is slightly different from normal Q-switched Fiber Laser. For more information, check out this post.

In order to achieve black marking on stainless steel, the focus length of the lasers must de-focus up to 3 millimeters depending on your lens specification. The larger marking area of the lens, you will need to de-focus more, up to 5mm-7mm.

Parameter Settings

  • POWER – 50%
  • FREQUENCY – 75kHz
  • PULSE WIDTH –  200ns
  • MARKING SPEED – 500 mm/s
  • HATCHING LINE INTERVAL – 0.001 mm

The laser that we’re using is high powered laser which has 200W of power. Depending on your laser power, you might need to adjust the marking speed and power percentage in order to achieve the result. The marking speed is always proportional to power percentage. The higher the marking speed , the more power you need to get the best result.
